YORK – On Tuesday evening, throngs of people of all ages made their way through the hallways, around the commons area and through the gym at York Middle School.
It was the third annual YMS Wax Museum.
Every year, each of the sixth graders at YMS chooses a historical person to represent. On Tuesday night, each student dressed in character and stood, frozen in place, in the middle school with a paper bag in front of them.
Friends and family went from student to student dropping change in the bags. The change caused the students to launch into a short, informational speech about their character and his or her affect on history.
The characters ranged from the creators of Google to Lebron James or the Wright brothers.
All of the money raised is donated to the York Pride Pack Program at York Elementary School.
Last year, students raised more than $600.
This year’s total, even with 25 less students than last year, came to $400.
“The kids are understanding how important it is to be a part of the community and to give back to the community,” teacher and organizer Matt Kern said.
