The 40th Annual Street Rods Nationals East show is revving up this weekend.

Dale Newcomer of Warrington Township bought his 1930 Ford Coupe in 1985 at the flea market at the Street Rods Nationals East show in York.

Four years later, he had the car ready for the event, and he has been attending since then. He also has taken it to other shows, too.

"It's fun to drive," he said. "You meet a lot of nice people."

Newcomer and dozens of other street rods enthusiasts gathered Thursday afternoon at the Holiday Inn in West Manchester Township for the 40th Annual Street Rod Nationals East plus car show this weekend.

His street rod, which is painted a Porsche red, still remains bright after 25 years. It attracts attention, and he has won 20-some trophies over the years.

The car is an original, and Newcomer said he didn't change the physical look of it much.

"This car is a high school dream," he said, recalling a kid in school who had one. "It finally came true."

Across the parking lot, a 1932 Ford Roadster, painted a traditional Washington Blue, is up for sale for $37,500. Everything on the car is brand new.

"We build them for people to drive and enjoy instead of just sitting in the garage," said Dennis Elmore, fabricator for Adams Hot Rod Shop in Rydal, Ga.

He and his co-workers have been coming to the York show for five years. They had sold a car to a gentleman and delivered it to York.

"We've been hooked," he said. "The people up here are so great. This has rapidly become one of our favorite shows."
