Numerous events are planned.
The Susquehanna River Honor Journey will pass through York and Lancaster counties next week, according to a news release.
It is part of a month-long gratitude and awareness campaign, which began May 25 and ends June 22.
Here are the events:
Sunday, 6 to 9 p.m.: River enthusiasts can participate in a public Honor Walk across the Columbia-Wrightsville bridge. The walk will begin at Columbia River Park in Columbia and end at the Susquehanna and Tidal Canal park in Wrightsville. An Interfaith River Blessing and Gratitude Ceremony and potluck-style picnic will follow. Participants can bring songs, stories, poems and prayers to share with the intention of giving thanks and praying for the restoration of health, vitality and bio-diversity to the river.
Monday, 6 to 9 p.m.: Lower Susquehanna River Keeper Michael Helfrich will offer a discussion, "Man's Impact to the Natural Susquehanna," along with one other speaker to be announced. It will be at Shank's Mare Outfitters, 2092 Long Level Road in Lower Windsor Township.
Tuesday, 9 a.m.: A group of Honor Hikers will begin a 64-mile trek from Long Level to Havre de Grace, Md. They will be traveling the Mason-Dixon Trail. The effort is to help create awareness about the significance and beauty of the river and draw attention to some of the industrial impacts that have plagued the health of the river. The hikers will meet at Shank's Mare
Outfitters at 8 a.m. Registration for the Southern Branch Honor Relay is still available at http://susquehannariverhonorjourney.org/the-southern-branch-honor-walk/.
June 15, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.: An original, multi-media musical, "The Susquehanna Is for Lovers (and All Others)!", will have its debut performance at Manheim Township Public Library, 959 Granite Run Drive, in Lancaster County. The performance is free, but donations will be accepted. The audience is encouraged to bring a food dish to share as an interactive part of the play.
