ROCK HILL A southbound lane of Interstate 77 just south of S.C. 901 in York County is blocked for an extended time after a double-fatal crash involving a tractor-trailer.
Drivers should expect delays. It could be midday before the scene is clear. One lane of traffic is open, but progress through the scene is very slow. At 9:15 a.m., southbound traffic was backed up about four miles.
The driver and a passenger in a commercial tractor-trailer died after their vehicle ran off the right side of I-77 and struck a group of trees down an embankment near mile marker 72 at about 5:45 a.m., said Lance Cpl. Billy Elder with the Highway Patrol.
Their names are not immediately available.
