Yorkshire In Bloom winners announced

YORKSHIRE In Bloom has announced the winners of this year’s floral awards, with York and Ryedale towns and businesses triumphing in their categories.
In Bloom groups in Stamford Bridge, Knaresborough, Scarborough and Whitby have all seen their efforts earn them first prize in their categories.
In the business categories, York’s Middlethorpe Hall and Spa has been named winner in the large hotel category, while Yorkshire Lavender, at Terrington, near Malton won in the visitor attractions category.
Yorkshire Lavender founder Nigel Goodwill said they are thrilled with their win.
He said: “We’ve managed to do it again, and it’s lovely for the staff who work very, very hard.”
The Naburn Lock Caravan Park also won the caravan park category, while Whitby’s Pannet Park was a winner in the country houses, estates, parks and gardens category.
It beat competition from York’s Museum Gardens and Burnby Hall Gardens, near Pocklington, both of which were awarded a gold prize in that category.
York St John University also took a gold award. Head gardener Rob Scott said the prize gave him “immense pride”.
“The gold award is the icing on the cake and a credit to every member of the team for all their hard work,” he said.
Christine Willoughby, of Knaresborough In Bloom, said: “We are delighted. You never know what to expect but the judging went well and it was a beautiful day.
“We want to say a big thank you everybody in the team for working so hard, and the gardeners at Harrogate council, who have been a great help.”
Across the area, gold awards also went to Dunnington, Filey, Nafferton, Spofforth and Hutton Cranswick while Kirkbymoorside, Driffield, Wilberfoss, Pocklington, Upper and Nether Poppleton and Beverley each took a silver gilt award.
